Woods Walk & Trail Run offers five trails of varying lengths and levels of difficulty to accommodate people of all fitness and interest levels, ranging from an easy walk of less than 1 mile to a REALLY RUGGED 10.3 miles.
There's nothing we like better than happy runners & walkers. We really listen to your comments, and make every effort to implement your suggestions, so...
- Everyone loved our improved trail marking in 2010, so you'll see the same great system this year.
- Based on your feedback, we've COMPLETELY REVISED the 5K trails! Download a map to see what it looks like this year. You'll be on entirely different trails, with different sites. There are still hills to climb - we are in the woods in Portville, after all!
- Our 10K & 10M trails will still have dramatically reduced road time.
- Don't wait to start your training - the 10K and 10M trails are still really challenging!
All trail lengths are approximate.

Guided Nature Walk, about 1/2 mile
A trained naturalist will lead you on an easy walk around the meadow, pond, and transition areas and point out interesting sights and sounds along the way. Great for families.
Walkers only on this trail.
Five K (a tiny bit long at 3.2 miles)
A
completely revised trail, this year you'll be transported to and from our registration site to get to the beautiful trails. You'll still be challenged by
MODERATE slopes that pass through woods and meadows.
Walkers: you can stop half way through and wait for others at the aid station if you'd like.
Choose walking or running on the 5K.
Ten K (a little long at 6.4 miles)
The terrain on this trail is at times
rigorous with plenty of ascents and descents, but well worth it! The temptation to stop and enjoy the ridgetop view will be strong, so be prepared! You'll see pine plantations, meadows, creeks, and multiple habitat types - this trail has it all. Check out the trail map for elevations.
Choose hiking or running on the 10K.
10 miles (a bit long at 10.3 miles)
Designed for
serious runners only,
this trail will push you to the limit. Take long-established footpaths over several elevation changes, ranging from 1,400 to more than 2,200 feet above sea level. In addition to the pine plantations, meadows, creeks, and multiple habitat types of the 10K, this trail adds loops through old-growth forest. You'll want to look at our elevation trail map so you know what you're in for!
Runners only on the 10 mile
Race day registration for all Woods Walk trails is $25 for adults, $12 for children. Please bring a check made out to Pfeiffer Nature Center or correct change.
Come and enjoy the quiet, serene world of nature while walking for the health of it!
